I'm just some random, crazy 'dumbass' that roams the net, coding things here, posting things there. I really enjoy playing games or listening to music too. Of course I devote as much time as I can to my amazing girlfriend as well. I aint the average nerd!

Liek OH MEH GEE. Fuckin' EPIC!

Posted by DarkBlack-Dragon Aug. 26, 2008 @ 2:18 AM EDT

I only just now was able to witness the true fuckin' epicness that the movie 300 is. I know I'm late, blame my mom who read some reviews and thought it was a horrible bloody terrible bad movie for evil people kinda bullshit. I have seen some really good movies, but I must say, 300 is now the TOP.

I am not normally a person for history, but start me on something of medieval times and before (aka - times when Sparta was in its glory) and I will be so interested. Now I'm not sure what other people think of the 'myth' of Spartans, but personally I believe it did happen. Do I know for sure? Well hell, thats like asking me if I know for sure there is no god. I may not believe in one, but that does not mean I do not believe it is not a possibility (in my mind, the likelihood of there being one is insanely slim due to what I have heard. I mean cmon, an invisible guy watching what every single person does every second of their lives? Gonna take a bit more than that to make me think otherwise).

Anyway, back on this topic, if you'd consider it one, oh non-existent reader...

Just for the hell of it.. How many of you (that actually read this shit XD) believe the Spartans lived to the full glory that legend says they did? I beleive it is very possible, and actually happened; and I base this off of the knowledge I have.
Now I want anyone who reads this to tell me their thoughts (even if you have not seen the movie. really all you need is to know the legend itself. :P)

Oh yes, and because I have never done this before, I shall include a picture that I deem fitting. :P

Spartans were indeed a totally kick ass race of greeks located just south of athens
they WERE awesome warriors, and their whole city was built around that idea
however obviously not all of them were warriors
there were more slaves than spartans in sparta, so there were so many warriors to prevent an uprisin, not to go kick persian ass
the battle of Thermapolyae did happen, although the movie stylized it, alot
Xerxes was not present in the battle itself
there were immortals, although obviously the monsyer bit is myth, along with everyother monster in the film
300 spartans did hold Hellespont for a number of days before being routed, although the discovery of the goat path that led to the destruction of the spartans probably wasnt due to the bitterness of a hunchback
Spartans also existed much before medieval times, as the Greco-Persian wars occured in 449BC-448BC and medieval times did not begin until roughly 500AD
By that time the spartans depicted in 300 were essentially gone by 326BC
still an awesome movie, but obviously a little fantastic in its depictions of that battle
I'm a loser for ancient history :3

300 does kick ass though, an the spartans although short lived, are one of my favourite ancient cultures :)

Oh hell yeah. I gotta agree with ya man. I can not think of any culture that surpasses the glory of Sparta. They seem to emphasize all the strengths that man (and of course even women) have the potential for.

Personally I doubt the reason no slaves really would have 'revolted' if you will, is due to two basic reasons. The first being the fact that the spartans were so well trained and disciplined. It is doubtful slaves would be taught any form of combat. Second is that I imagine the spartans probably treated them far better than many other slaves were treated. While of course I don't know this for sure, I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

As far as the odd creatures in the movie goes.. well simply put, that was hollywood being hollywood lol.

Needless to say, I really don't know nearly as much as I wish I knew about the spartans, or simply about the old times of swords and shields. Oh well. At least there is SOME history I'm interested in. XD

Thanks for taking the time to reply by the way! :D

I've memorized the whole "Voila! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran..." speech as well as the "Good evening, London" one too.
